    (Provisional Army of the Confederate States) "Official Business", imprint on legal-size envelope endorsed "CB Gibson Sur(geon) PACS ." at upper left, entered mails with "Richmond Va. Mar 5, 1862." cds with matching "Due 5" rating handstamp to Capt. F.P. Miller, company K 21st NC Regiment, Manassas; creases and wear, reduced at left, Fine and scarce.

    The endorsement is that of Charles Bell Gibson PACS (1816-1865) who was the Surgeon-in-Charge of General Hospital (military hospital) No. 1 in Richmond. He also had the additional duty of examining sick or wounded soldiers to determine fitness for duty and disposition such as return to duty, discharge, furlough, etc.
