I found quite a change in the position of things. The Yankees had & now have possession of Annandale & Falls Church & Falls Church & of course Mason's & Munson's hill, upon which I hear they are throwing up extensive works. I heard yesterday we were going to retake the hills. We have them up without any resistance they having advanced in very strong force. Our camp is about four miles before the Court House, within about two & a half miles of the Yankee pickets, which I think is most too close…our Colonel has been promoted to Brig. General, commanding all the cavalry, & Capt. Jone of the Washington Company to Co. of the first Reg Cavalry, and same Fitzhugh Lee to Lieut. Col. of the same regiment…we expect a fight here every day now… ; 5¢ minor gum toning along edges, Very Fine; with 2018 P.F. certificate.
