    Red River Packet Countess, sharp red oval handstamp on 3¢ red (U10) buff Nesbitt entire from the Carroll Hoy & Co. correspondence to New Orleans La.; edge tear just into oval, otherwise Extremely Fine and choice example of this rare handstamp.

    The "Countess" of 198 tons was built at Cincinnati in 1860, owned by Capt. William C. Harrison with Captain George W. Wilson as Master. It burned at Alexandria in March 1864 to avoid capture by Union forces.

    Frank Lyon, partial red oval illustrated handstamp on May 27th 1853 cover from Natchez bearing 3¢ dull red (11A) , tied by bold "STEAM" straightline, red "New Orleans La. Mar 28" cds adjacent to Baltimore Md., forwarded with 3¢ dull red (11A) tied by "Baltimore Md. Apr 5" cds to Bel Air Md., original "Natchez May 27. 1853" datelined letter accompanies; small edge tear, otherwise Very Fine and unusual forwarded steamboat letter.

    Steamer, Morning Light, Capt. Wm. Dillon., intense blue oval handstamp ties 3¢ dull red (26) , rich color, on orange piece endorsed "Morning Light" at top, Extremely Fine and choice.

    Steamer Franklin, New-York and Havre Steam Navigation Company, blue double-oval handstamp on blue folded letter datelined "New York 14th Nov 1851" to Cognac, France, Havre red "Outre-Mer Le Havre 28 Nov 51" entry cds and "6" decimes due handstamp struck, Very Fine.

    The "Franklin" was the only Atlantic steamer to have used a Name-of-Boat cachet.

    From Steamer J.M. Relf, red oval handstamp on cover bearing 3¢ dull red (26) , small tear at top, canceled by manuscript squiggle from the Carroll Hoy & Co. correspondence to New Orleans La., endorsed "Per Steamer Relf" at bottom left, Very Fine and choice strike.
