    Steamer Bayou Belle, red oval handstamp on 3¢ red (U10) buff Nesbitt entire from the Buchannon Carroll & Co. correspondence to New Orleans La.; reduced at top, F.-V.F.

    Steamer Bayou Belle was a sternwheel packet built at Murrysville Va. and completed at Wheeling in 1855. She went to New Orleans running N.O.-Opelouisas costal. She was snagged and lost on the Cahaba River Alabama in October 1860.

    The Packet "Empress" was a sidewheel packet built in 1850. First home port was Mobile, running Alabama rivers until 1856 when she went to New Orleans.

    The Packet "Frolic" was a sidewheel packet built in 1860 at Wheeling W.V. Used by the CSA during the war, captured by Porter in 1864. After the war, she ran New Orleans-Alexandria trade.

    Regular Passenger Packet Gov. Allen, blue Mar. 20th rectangular steamboat datestamp on 3¢ pink (U58) entire from Hardee & Co. correspondence to New Orleans La., endorsed "Gov. Allen" at top left, Very Fine.

    Steamboat "Gov. Allen" was a sidewheel packet built in 1867 at Jeffersonville Ind andnamed for Mississippi Governor H.W. Allen. She ran the Mississippi River Vicksburg-Greenville-Bayou Sara. She was dismantled in 1877.

    Nashville & New Orleans Packet H.R.W. Hill, faint gray steamboat oval on 3¢ red Nesbitt buff entire from the Carroll Hoy & Co. correspondence to New Orleans La., entered mails with "New Orleans, Mar 27, 1860" cds and "Way" cancel, Very Fine and rare steamboat oval.

    The Packet "H.R.W. Hill" was a sidewheel packet was built in 1852 at New Albany Ind. In October 1860, her boilers exploded at Baton Rouge with the loss of 39 lives.

    Packet Mary Clifton, clear red oval handstamp on gray November 20th 1851 folded letter to Mobile Ala., entered mails with partial black "Steam 5" oval, endorsed "Per Boat, with a Can & Bundle of Shor Measures" at bottom left, Very Fine.

    Packet "Mary Clifton" was a sidewheel packet built in 1849 that ran rivers in Alabama until Feb. 26th 1855 when it snagged and was lost at Tait Shoals.

    Steamer Mary H., fancy purple corner card on 3¢ pink (U59) entire canceled by segmented cork duplexed with "Mobile Ala. May 26" cds to Demopolis Ala., endorsed "If not there the P.M. will please forwarded to him at Robertsons Ldg - Warrior River"; some restored paper loss just affects c.c., partial flap, F.-V.F. and rare.

    Steamer Minne-ha-ha, Lake Champlain, blue Sep 3, 1874 double-oval datestamp on pen canceled 3¢ green (U82) entire to Keeseville N.Y.; rough opening with some paper loss at left, otherwise F.-V.F. and unlisted.

    This handstamp is different than both the Klein and Milgram illustrated examples. The Steamer Minnehaha was a sidwheel packet built at Caldwell N.Y. in 1857. First home port was Alburg Vt. She was owned by Champlain Transportation Co. running route 1142 Whitehall-Plattsburg-Rouses Point Lake Champlain from July 1870 to June 1872 eleven-times per week.

    New Orleans & Shreveport Steamer National, oval handstamp on 3¢ pink (U58) entire from the Carroll Hoy & Co. correspondence to New Orleans La.; opening tears, F.-V.F.

    Steamer "National" was a sidewheel packet built in 1860 at Jeffersonville Ind. She ran the Mississippi and Red Rivers until 1873. Retired and taken to Cincinnati. She wrecked on the wharf at Covington Ky. and the high water carried her away October 1873.

    Steamer "P.F. Kimball" was a sidewheel packet built inn 1851 at New Albany Ind. Sent to New Orleans running N.O.-Grand Ecore. Went to Mobile in 1858 and returned to New Orleans in 1859, off lists in 1861.

    Steamer Prairie State, blue straightline handstamp on 3¢ pink (U58) entire canceled by cork duplexed with "Mobile Ala. Nov 27" cds to Mobile Ala.; front and back mostly separated, Fine and scarce steamboat straightline.

    The Steamer "Prairie State" was a sidewheel packet built in 1863 at Wellsville Oh. Originally sent to St. Louis, then sold and moved to Mobile in March 1864.

    Packet Rapides, blue steamboat oval on 3¢ pink (U58) entire from the Hoy & Co. correspondence to New Orleans La., endorsed "Rapides" at top left, Very Fine.

    Steamer "Rapides" was a sternwheeler built in 1869 at Cincinnati. She ran New Orleans-Red Rivers until she sank 25 miles below Baton Rouge on Feb. 28th 1876.

    Steamer Nicholas was a sidewheel packet built in 1864. She ran the Ohio River, then in 1866 went to New Orleans running New Orleans-Bayou Sara and later New Orleans-Red River. She sank at Natchitoches on December 23, 1868.

    Stonewall, bold blue octagon "Feb 15, 1869" datestamp on 3¢ pink (U58) entire from the Hoy & Co. correspondence to New Orleans La., Extremely Fine and choice.

    "Stonewall" was a sidewheel packet built in 1866 at Jeffersonville Ind. She ran the Mississippi River until October 1869, when it caught fire at Neeleys Landing, Ill. 209 persons drowned including the Captain and clerk. The hull was recovered and went to St. Louis Mo. as a wharf boat. In January 1871, the night watchman said the Stonewall's mate, also lost in the fire, was a frequent ghostly visitor.

Feb 3" cds and matching bold "Way 11 Cents" rimless rating oval, Very Fine.
