" Pd 1/4½ " rating for U.S. plus ms. "9" pence (7d inland postage plus 2d ferriage) totalled to "2/1½" due, forwarded to Dundas with red "Forwarded" framed handstamp and ms. "4½" totalled to "2/6" due, various Canadian postage including 2d carriage fee at top right, very fine, Very Fine and attractive, ex-Koppersmith .

"1/2" 1s2d rating, endorsed "Via Liverpool & New York per steamer Liverpool", red "New York 'Ship' Feb 25" cds with manuscript "20¾" rating to Montreal, Canada "1/5½" due rating, Very Fine, ex-Koppersmith .

1842 (Mar. 3) Manchester, England to Philadelphia Pa., gray folded letter with red "Manchester, MR 3, 1843" origin cds (wrong year) and magenta "1/-" one-schilling transatlantic rating, endorsed "By Steamer from Liverpool", ccarried by Cunard Line Columbia from Liverpool Mar. 4th but broke shaft enroute and sailed to Halifax under sail, mails transferred at Halifax to Unicorn leaving Mar. 25th for Boston arriving Mar. 27th, entered mails with partial red "Boston Ms. 'Ship' Mar 28" cds and matching " 20 3/ " rating handstamp, Very Fine, ex-White, Koppersmith .

Cunard "Columbia" arrived at Halifax under canvas, having broken a shaft about 450 miles from Halifax. Her mails were transferred to Cunard auxiliary steamer "Unicorn" who carried them to Boston.

1847 (Feb. 1) Havre, France to Brunswick Me. via Boston, blue datelined folded letter with blue three-line " Forwarded by Yours respectfully, Havre, Wm. Slade " backstamp, endorsed "pr Boston & Halifax via Liverpool Steamer", Le Havre (2.1) origin cds and Calais (2.2) transit backstamp, small red "P.D." framed handstamp, red London Paid (2.3) transit, carried by Cunard Line Cambria from Liverpool Feb. 4th to Boston arriving Feb. 20th, red "Boston Ms. 'Ship' Feb 21" cds and matching "7" ship rating handstamp, Very Fine, ex-White, Koppersmith .

"34" cents rating, carried by Cunard Line Britania from Boston Sep. 6th to Liverpool arriving Sep. 20th, Liverpool America (9.20) backstamp with matching "1/-" due rating handstamp; bit of erosion, F.-V.F. and scarce retaliatory use from Washington D.C.

[Retaliatory Rate] 1848 (Dec. 2) Nottingham, England to New York N.Y., datelined folded letter with blue "Nottingham DE 2 1848" cds and magenta "2/-" shilling rating at two-times the 1s transatlantic packet fee, Liverpool (12.3) backstamps, apparently missed the Dec. 2nd sailing and carried by Cunard Line Europa from Liverpool Dec. 16th to New York arriving Dec. 31st, blue manuscript "48" cent due rating at two-times the 24¢ transatlantic packet rate with no inland postage due since ship arrived at New York, F.-V.F. and rare example from the last retaliatory sailing.

Letter arrived in Liverpool just after the Cunard steamer Niagara departed for Boston and had to wait two weeks for the next steamer to New York. It was carried on 25th and last Cunard mail voyage to the U.S. under the retaliatory order.
