1846 (May 26) Illinois Governor Ford Mexican War Letter to Sec. of War Marcy, blue folded letter with red "Springfield Ill. May 26" cds and bold boxed "10" rating handstamp addressed to William S. Marcy, Secretary of War, Washington D.C., Illinois Gov. Thomas Ford Ford writes in response to "requisition…for three regiments of infantry or riflemen of volunteers from this state…I have issued the necessary orders…In pursuance of your instructions I will appoint "Illinois Town" on the bank of the Mississippi river opposite St. Louis, as the place of rendezvous. I have selected this place, because on account of its nearness to St. Louis it is the most convenient place for the government to furnish arms, munitions and camp equipment, and transportation either to the Rio Grande or to New Mexico or California"; some interior edge staining, toned file folds, Fine, an important historical Mexican-American war letter .

Williams to Tarboro N.C. datelined " Walnut Springs or Camp Taylor near Monterrey, May 2nd 1847 " to his brother with interesting General Taylor content " …at this time I am at Taylor Camp about 5 miles from Monterrey. We came up here with a train of waggons…I have had the pleasure of seeing Gen Taylor…he wares an old straw hat and an old shabby looking coat…I must bring my letter to close as the train is about to start… "; typical aging, F.-V.F. and interesting General Taylor content.

Gray, Sergent Company B, 13th Infantry to his Uncle with some interesting content " …I have just got in Camp after being absent some fifteen days from my Company. I was with a Scouting party between Camp Mier and 'Saraloo'; the Guerillas have become very bold & numerous in that part of the country, which is about 400 miles above this…Col. Withers has been very kind in sending me out with Scouts - up and down the Rio Grand river for Gords… "; large cover tear, Fine appearance.

Isabel, Jan 24 1847, sharp two-line postmark with matching " 10 " due rating handstamp on gray folded letter to Palmyra Ind., letter reads in part " …Letters directed to any particular post or town are necessarily delayed in reaching me if at all. By directing as below they will be most likely to come direct… W.H. McClintock, Co. D, First Regt., Ky. Vol. Cavalry, Army of Occupation, Mexico "; age spots, Fine appearance.

Pt. Isabel, Feb 1, 1847, two-line type III postmark with matching " 10 " rating handstamp on gray folded letter datelined " Camp near Monterey, Jany 14, 1847 " to Perryville Ky., letter from Kentucky Vol. back home reading " …if I fall in the defense of my country you will not drop a tear of sympathy for him who loves you… "; some light toning, F.-V.F. and scarce use from Kentucky Volunteer.
