    "Potomac Boat, Augt. 26th.", manuscript route agent postmark with ms. "12½" cent rating on folded letter datelined from "Fredericksburg, August 25th 1842" to Baltimore Md., a Very Fine use, ex-Eggan, Roth .

  • Lot 67

    1847, 5¢ red brown, red cds on blue 1850 folded cover bearing 5¢ red brown (1) horizontal pair , margins to in, worn impression, tied by matching red grid cancel to Havana, Cuba , docketing on back reads " Messrs. Thierman & Pringle will oblige us by forwarding this letter pr. 'Isabel' Steamer - under cover addressed to Alex Baskin Esq. Havana. New York 28 Sept. 1850 ", additional docketing reads " received too late for the boat trip of the 'Isabel' ", receipt docketing indicates arrival of Oct. 23; vertical file fold affects right stamp and cover with some wear, Fine appearance, scarce use carried outside of the mails to Cuba.

    Potomac Steamboat, Jun 25, red cds on folded letter datelined "New York, June 24, 1850" bearing two 5¢ red brown (1) singles, full margins to touched, canceled by red grids and tied by light horizontal file fold crease to New Orleans La. at the 10¢ rate for over 300 miles, sender endorsed "Paid" at lower left, a Very Fine use, ex-Gibson, Feldman .

    Potomac Steamboat, Sep 7, red cds on folded cover docketed "New York 6 Sept / 50" bearing 10¢ black (2) , large margins to barely touched, tied by manuscript "X" to New Orleans La. for the rate over 300 miles, sender endorsed "Paid" at lower left, docketed as received Sep. 16th; some overall wear, Very Fine.

    THIS IS THE ONLY RECORDED USE OF THE 10¢ 1847 ISSUE LEGITIMATELY USED ON THE POTOMAC RIVER ROUTE.

    There is a 10¢ bisect is also known in the Miller collection at The New York Public Library, but it is marked "Illegal" and was not accepted for postage.

    Potomac Steamboat Mail, 1849-1857, group of 6 "Potomac Steamboat" strikes comprising three 1849-1850 red stampless strikes, 1852 black stampless strike, 1856-57 c. Bloods #15L15 combo use with #11 to Alabama (cover fault), and #11A use to Macon Ga.; also includes two later 1905, 1908 steamboat use; some faults, F.-V.F.
