Oct 4" cds to Hemlock Pa.; left edge tear, reduced and repaired right edge, Very Fine appearance, the only recorded example of this portrait design in blue .

    (1856 Campaign) James Buchanan, John Breckinridge, patriotic campaign design with Flag and Eagle, verses: "Buchanan & Breckinridge", "Democratic Platform", "The Union It Must Be preserved", "The Constitution", on buff cover bearing 3¢ dull red (11A) right centerline margin single , touched at left, tied by "Gilmanton, N.H. 7 Oct" cds to Gilmanton N.H.; top left opening tear with faint tape stain, some edge wear, otherwise Very Fine and scarce design.

    This patriotic campaign design was used again for the 1860 campaign with the names "Buchanan & Breckinridge" removed.

    (1856 Campaign) James Buchanan, John Breckinridge, ornate campaign design corner card on cover bearing 3¢ dull red (11) , rich color, margins to touched, tied by indistinct "Naugatuck Ct. Oct 16" cds to Seymour Ct., with original matching letterhead enclosure datelined "Oct 17th 1856" that mentions discount railroad tickets to a Buchanan rally; cover opening tear mend at top, no flap, Very Fine appearance, the only recorded example .
