    1909, 1¢ green, on bluish paper, well centered single, natural s.e. at bottom, tied by "Washington D.C. Feb 21 1909" duplex on picture post card of Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C., addressed to Louisville, Ky., F.-V.F., The Earliest Documented Use ; with 2004 A.P.S. certificate.

    This is an exceptionally early use being within five days of when the stamp was purported to have been issued.

  • Lot 415

    1910, 1¢ green, S.L. watermark, booklet pane of 6, pair from the bottom of the booklet pane, tied by "Pittsburgh Pa. Feb 28 1911" wavy flag machine cancel prepaying the letter rate to Washington, D.C., arrival backstamp the next day on March 1st, this not being a leap year; stamps lifted and hinged in place to confirm identification, Very Fine and attractive use, booklet pane stamps are much more difficult to find and date, The Earliest Documented Use , ex-Alpha ; with 2004 A.P.S. certificate.

    1917, 1¢ green, A.E.F. booklet, single and pair, all tied by three strikes of purple "U.S. Postal Service, May 2, 1918" cds on clean cover to Paris, France, endorsed "B Smith, 1st U.S. Engineers" at top left and ms. self censor at bottom left, purple censored handstamp; left stamp gum toning at bottom, still fresh and Very Fine use, A scarce A.E.F. booklet pane use to France underpaying the 5¢ rate; with 2006 A.P.S. certificate.
