    1840 (Nov. 10) Havana, Cuba to London, England via New York, gray docketed folded letter with " Forwarded by Collomb & Iselin, New York " oval backstamp for transit to New York and red " Forwarded From Harnden's Package Express & Forwarder Letter Office, No 2 Wall St, New York " oval for transit to Boston, carried as endorsed by Cunard Line Britannia from Boston Dec. 1st to Liverpool arriving Dec. 15th; file folds, F.-V.F. and scarce double-forwarder transatlantic use from Havana.

    San Francisco, Cal, Aug 6, double-circle postmark duplexed with four-ring target cancel on incoming 3¢ pink (U59) buff entire to local address, matching " Due 7 " and " Purser " handstamps to make up the 10¢ blanket ship rate; light stain and soiling, edge wear, Fine.

    The "Purser" marking is known on San Francisco incoming ship letters from 1865 to 1867, which were subject to a 10¢ blanket rate applicable to mail from countries with which the United States had no postal treaty arrangements.
