    1861 (Mar. 4) Lincoln Inaugural Cover, buff cover with red "Boston Mass., Mar 4" cds bearing 3¢ dull red (26) tied by large Boston "Paid" circular grid addressed to Hon. Mongomery Blair, Washington D.C., docketed in Blair's hand " Andrew on Mass. Appts. " at left; flap tear ending in tiny edge tear, F.-V.F.

    A RARE FIRST LINCOLN INAUGURATION COVER SENT TO A LINCOLN CABINET MEMBER.

    This cover was sent by Massachusetts Governor John Andrew who was sworn in Janaury 1861. The cover was addressed to Montgomery Blair, Lincoln's newly appointed Postmaster General. It was likely delivered to the White House, or Blair House.

    The 3¢ 1857 Issue was used until about August 1, 1861 when demonetized due to the Civil War.
