    Albany N.Y. "Registered Letter No.", black arc handstamp with ms. "46" registry number, on 3¢ pink (U59) entire canceled by fancy heart , matching "Albany N.Y. Apr 7" octagon postmark to Oxford Oh.; reduced at left, F.-V.F., a unique style of handstamp.

    Albany N.Y., Registered, Jul 22, cds with matching 11673" registry number on registered cover bearing 6¢ carmine (148) nat. s.e. and 15¢ bright orange (152) tied by Maltese cross fancy cancels with fancy script preprinted address to C.E. Hartung & Co., New York N.Y., blue Hartung arrival d.s. with ms. "$59.35" money docketing, original letter accompanies; 6¢ affected slightly from edge placement, Very Fine and attractive registry use.

    Lewiston N.Y. "Money Letter", blue 31.5mm straightline used with matching two strikes of "Lewiston N.Y. 19 May" cds and circular 7-bar grid cancels 3¢ yellowish rose red (11A) on 3¢ red on white entire (U9) to Buffalo N.Y., ms. "My 21" docketing, probably 1856 usage; no bottom flap, gum stains around stamp and ink smear, Fine and rare, the only recorded example , ex-Piller .

    Lewiston was an exchange post office with Canada, so many money letters from Canada passed through this office.

    New York N.Y. "Registered", black 35mm straightline with ms. "5228" registry number, matching "New-York, Aug 19" flueron cds and radial cancels tie 2¢ black (73) pair on 1864 folded letter to Philadelphia Pa.; right 2¢ tear, Very Fine and unique 2¢ black registered use.

    The New York flueron cds was used only on registered mail. The fancy cancellation was also used only on registered mail.

    New-York, Registered, Feb 4, rimless cds with ms. "4058" number, on orange cover bearing 3¢ rose, D grill (85) horizontal strips of three and four plus single tied by square quartered cork cancels to Newburgh N.Y.; single and right stamp of strip of three with piece out, left stamp of strip creased from fold over left edge, otherwise Very Fine and early use; with 1956 S.P.A. and 2018 Crowe certificates. Scott No. 85 $9,300.

    Catalogued as three pairs and two singles. The earliest recorded use is February 2, 1868, so this is only two days later.

    New York N.Y. "New York. Registered, Jul 2", rimless cds with matching large circular grid cancels tie 3¢ ultramarine (114) and 15¢ brown & blue (119) , rich colors, perfs in, on 1869 orange cover to Milford Conn.; reduced slightly at left, 3¢ corner tear, Very Fine, ex-Kuphal .

    New-York, Registered, Nov 30, 1867, red rimless cds and ms. "6980." number, matching red squared circle of wedges tie 3¢ rose (65) s.e. and two 10¢ green (68) singles, on 1867 amber cover to Ware Village, Mass.; small edge tear at left, otherwise Very Fine and rare New York red canceled domestic registry use.

    Strikes of this rimless cds struck in black were generally used on domestic mail and red on foreign mail, however it was struck in red on this domestic use.

    New York 'C' Registered, "Aug 30", station cds with ms. date and matching ms. "390" registry number crossed out in blue crayon with "16955" number added, matching star fancy cancels tie 2¢ red brown (146) , 6¢ dull pink (159) and 10¢ brown (150) on cover to Bradford Vt.; flap with registry receipt remnant, Very Fine and rare NYC station registry use.

    New York N.Y. - Letter Markings, group of three inbound covers mounted on exhibit page, each shows different letter comprising "Bellevue, O. Aug 8, 1863" cds with "Paid 3" cancel on 3¢ pink (U35) buff entire with New York " K "; "Bellevue, O. Sept 2, 1863" cds with "Paid 3" cancel on 3¢ pink (U35) buff entire with New York " I ", docketed "Order" across face; and blue "Philadelphia Pa. Oct 17" cds ties 3¢ rose (65) pair and single, latter faulty, with matching "Registered" straightline and New York " R ", Very Fine group.

    No one has been able to show the significance of the New York Letter handstamps, Milgram presumed they have something to do with letter carriers of registered letters.
